The main objective of the project “DIMMI di Storie Migranti” (funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – 2019) was to build a new narrative around migration, from the perspective of migrants themselves. Through the sharing of their experiences, they offer an original account of a society in transformation and contribute to the creation and promotion of a new set of shared values.
At the end of the project, ASPEm decided to continue taking part in one of the key initiatives born from that experience: the “Multimedia Migrant Diaries” competition.
Since 2022, ASPEm has been a member of the Prize’s Scientific Committee.
The National Competition
“Diari Multimediali Migranti” is the annual national competition that collects and shares the stories of people of foreign origin or background who live or have lived in Italy and the Republic of San Marino. The competition has two main goals: to gather and preserve a cultural heritage that risks being lost, and to counter stereotypes about migration through the direct testimonies of those who have experienced it.
Participants can submit their story using whichever medium they prefer—written narratives, videos, photographs, drawings, or a combination of these.
Each edition of the competition has specific deadlines for submitting materials. All updated information is available on the competition’s official website.
The Local Reading Commission
The first step in the selection and evaluation process of the submitted stories is carried out by the Local Commissions. Spread across Italy, these commissions are responsible for reviewing the materials and recommending the most deserving works to the Scientific Committee.
This process ensures a participatory, inclusive, and diverse selection.
Since 2019, ASPEm has coordinated the Local Commission in Cantù. The group is open to everyone.
